Janice Martinez serves as the Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) for FDOT District 1. She has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience. She began her career in 1995 with the Haines City Police Department as a dispatcher and Intoxilyzer Operator before joining the Florida Highway Patrol in 1997, where she was stationed in Troop C, Polk County. Throughout her tenure in the Tampa Bay area, Janice held several roles, including traffic homicide investigator, midnight shift commander, and traffic homicide supervisor. 

 

As the District 1 LEL, Janice supports approximately 49 law enforcement agencies across 12 Southwest Florida counties, working to strengthen and enhance traffic enforcement and engagement initiatives. Her responsibilities include facilitating and increasing law enforcement participation in high-visibility campaigns such as Click It or Ticket, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, and Operation Southern Slow Down. She coordinates press conferences and public safety events, conducts training sessions and Local Area Network (LAN) meetings, assists agencies in securing and managing traffic safety grants, and manages the exchange of critical information, including officer training, crash data and trends, checkpoint planning, and legal updates. She also evaluates law enforcement contributions to traffic safety initiatives, policies, education efforts, and enforcement activities through the Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge.

 

Additionally, Janice serves on the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition, and supports Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTSTs) throughout the district.
