About the District 2 Law Enforcement Liaison:
Juan Cardona has nearly 35 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career in 1992 with the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia as a Patrol Officer. In 1994, Juan joined the Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland, where he served as a Special Victims Unit Investigator and as a Hostage Negotiator. He also served as the Traffic Safety Grants Coordinator for the National Sheriffs' Association until 2006.
As the District 2 Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL), Juan supports approximately 52 law enforcement agencies across 18 Northeast Florida counties to strengthen and enhance traffic safety initiatives. He is responsible for promoting and implementing high-visibility enforcement campaigns, coordinating public safety and press events, leading training sessions and Local Area Network (LAN) meetings, and providing guidance to agencies in securing and managing traffic safety grants. He also facilitates the exchange of critical information, including officer training, crash data and trends, checkpoint planning, and legal updates. Additionally, Juan is involved in coordinating the Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge and evaluating agency contributions to traffic safety through policies, education, and enforcement.
Juan actively serves on the Florida Impaired Driving Coalition and provides support to Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTSTs) across the district.
