About the District 1 Law Enforcement Liaison:
Janice Martinez has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience. She began her career in 1995 with the Haines City Police Department as a dispatcher and Intoxilyzer Operator before joining the Florida Highway Patrol in 1997, where she was stationed in Troop C, Polk County. Throughout her tenure in the Tampa Bay area, she held several roles, including traffic homicide investigator, midnight shift commander, and traffic homicide supervisor. Janice continues to serve as a Reserve Trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol, Troop K.
As the District 1 Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL), Janice supports approximately 49 law enforcement agencies across 12 Southwest Florida counties to strengthen and enhance traffic safety initiatives. She is responsible for promoting and implementing high-visibility enforcement campaigns, coordinating public safety and press events, leading training sessions and Local Area Network (LAN) meetings, and providing guidance to agencies in securing and managing traffic safety grants. She also facilitates the exchange of critical information, including officer training, crash data and trends, checkpoint planning, and legal updates. Additionally, Janice is involved in coordinating the Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Challenge and evaluating agency contributions to traffic safety through policies, education, and enforcement.
Janice actively serves on the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition and provides support to Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTSTs) across the district.
