Janice Martinez serves as the District 1 Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL). Janice is a distinguished law enforcement professional with nearly 30 years of experience. She began her career in 1995 with the Haines City Police Department as a dispatcher and Intoxilyzer Operator before joining the Florida Highway Patrol in 1997, where she was stationed in Troop C, Polk County. Throughout her tenure in the Tampa Bay area, she has held several roles, including traffic homicide investigator, midnight shift commander, and traffic homicide supervisor.
As the District 1 LEL, Janice partners with and supports approximately 49 law enforcement agencies across 12 Southwest Florida counties in their traffic safety efforts. This includes promoting and encouraging law enforcement participation in state and national traffic safety initiatives, serving on traffic safety coalitions and district Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTSTs), assisting agencies in acquiring grants to address traffic safety deficiencies or expand ongoing programs, and coordinating the exchange of information, such as training opportunities, crash data, safety and sobriety checkpoints, and legal updates. Other responsibilities include fostering interagency coordination, developing and conducting training sessions and networking meetings focused on traffic safety, and implementing traffic safety campaigns such as Click It or Ticket, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, and Operation Southern Slow Down.
